WE REAL COOL
This is my artist’s book interpretation of American poet and Pulitzer Prize-winning Gwendolyn Brooks’ poem “We real cool”. It was first published in 1959 in Poetry Magazine, then included in her volume of poetry “The Bean Eaters” in 1960.
Her beautiful work has a "jazzy" cadence and the book is designed to echo that visually. Her poem is timeless in its meaning for young people everywhere.
