SEE CHANGE: SEACHANGE

Pollution and climate change are leading to sea level rises and unprecedented extinction of species. Without protecting bio-diversity living conditions for many living things, including us, will be made impossible. The world will survive, but with many fewer species – and without us. Our cleverness is our downfall and affects multitudes.

The book uses gyotaku rubbings of several fish species. Gyo in Japanese means “fish” and taku“rubbing”. The art technique of rubbing is one the oldest ways of printmaking, although the gyotaku practice has been practiced only since the 1850s to document fish catches while at sea. In the late 20th century this technique of rubbing, as practiced in Western art, has been termed frottage.
