To Sam Hamill:
Where there
are Humans,
You'll find Flies
and Buddhas
Etching and
chine collé
28 x 11 inches

In this intaglio etching with aquatint, old paper for chine collé was used. Sam Hamill is a poet in Washington state. Just before the war in Iraq was started he was invited to the White House for a reading. He, however, refused in protest of the war and instead organized with poet friends and colleagues the Poets Against War movement. It now includes contributions by thousands of poets and is spreading beyond the United States. Printmaking as well, from its very beginnings, has always been a tool for social protest and resistance to the powers that be.
