Words play an important role in my work and letterpress has recently been calling for my attention again. This relief technique, using metal and wooden types, is a natural companion to the other printmaking disciplines. The piece on the left, Carminamericana, measures 25 x 16 inches its visual is a new interpretation of the original Carmina Burana manuscript from the 13th century. It uses letterpress, a hand-colored woodcut and goldleaf. It is intended as a acompanion piece to the Carl Orff woodcut portrait.
The piece below measures 9 x 23 inches and is entitled Land's End. It references the fact that in the Far East brush paintings are considered not to be painted but rather written.
