Printmaking Residency
In late April 2007 I started a printmaking residency at Angel’s Cultural Center in San Pedro, CA. The center is located on 3601 S. Gaffey Street, San Pedro, CA 9073. Angels Gate is situated on a beautiful hill top in San Pedro, overlooking the coast and both the Los Angeles and Long Beach harbors. I am greatful to Nathan Birnbaum, Marshall Astor and Eva Vacca for this opportunity to work there. A solo show of my work concluded the residency in December 2007 and lasted through January 2008.
My main piece I worked on during this time was a large color woodblock portrait of Cesar Chavez.
Here are some pictures taken during that process. The final print measures about 38 inches tall by 22.5 inches wide. It is a woodcut done from 2 reduction blocks and is hand printed in 7 colors on washi paper. The center retains one print in their permanent collection.
