British born Alan Watts, 1915 -1973, was a philosopher, lecturer and zen scholar who, through 40 years of prolific writing and teaching in the late fifties and through the 1960s brought comparative religion and in particular zen buddhism closer to the American public. He studied for the priesthood and later moved to the U.S., frequently lecturing from his houseboat, the Vallejo, in Sausolito. This depicts him in a reduction woodcut in 7 colors.
