woodcut of Vincent Price (I) by printmaker Dirk Hagner
The well recognized face of Vincent price lends itself much to the woodblock medium of printmaking. There is no "in between": Either the wood is cut or it is left standing to print. It helps the printmaker to reduce a face to its essence. Price was a great art collector and patron of the arts. In the early 1950s he started to donate artworks to the East Los Angeles College, where, in 1958, the Vincent Price Gallery was opened. He also was involved in selling original prints (Picassos etc.) through Sears.
