woodcut portrait of Horst Janssen by printmaker Dirk Hagner
In my opinion German artist Horst Janssen is one of the greatest draftsmen in recent art history and in the league of Holbein, Klimt, Schiele and Hokusai. He died in 1995 in Hamburg where he created almost all his works on paper. Besides drawing, much of his very prolific work was done in printmaking media such as lithographs, etchings, aquatints and woodblock prints, a true master of the multiple print.
