There a two basically different ways in printmaking to cut the woodblock: The white-line and the black-line cut. The white-line style is employed here. It is like drawing with a light pen on dark ground. This is a portrait of composer Carl Orff, who wrote much important music. Of course, there is the Carmina Burana, but he is also revered by teachers the world over for his contributions to music education and his Schulwerke compositions. Carminamericana is a companion piece to go with this portrait, updating the theme song, O Fortuna, with a current visual statement.
