Bertolt Brecht was born in 1898 and has been one of the most important playwrites and poets in the German language. Among his many plays are Mother Courage, Mahagonny and Three Penny Opera. Fleeing from the Nazis, he went to Scandinavia, then to the Societ Union and finally to America where he was promptly invited to testify in front of the House Unamerican Activities Committee. He stayed only briefly and returned to Berlin where he died in 1956. Brecht is in my printmaking efforts represented with two separate woodblock prints. See the other Bertolt Brecht.
